The balance of pH levels is crucial for each person, regardless the health condition. In fact, the pH levels range from 1 to 14, 7 being the neutral value. The pH level that is lower than 7 is acidic. On the other hand, the pH level higher than 7 is alkaline. These pH levels have an impact on the overall health and if we want to keep a good health we have to make sure that our body has an alkaline pH level.
How is Alkaline Diet Beneficial for Fighting Cancer?
The alkaline diet is beneficial for fighting against cancer for one simple reason- alkaline environment destroys cancer cells. Hence, people who suffer from cancer should consume more alkaline food so that these hazardous cancer cells do not have a chance to survive. For best results, cancer patients should also stop consuming acidic food.
How is Acidic Food Related to Cancer?
The major culprit for developing cancer is inflammation, which is mainly caused due to the consumption of acidic food. Inflammation is a physical condition caused mostly by injury or infection. Then, when the damaged tissue releases chemicals, the body produces white blood cells which stimulate cell division and multiplication, so that the damaged tissues repair, in order to fight inflammation.
On the other hand, chronic inflammation is when the inflammatory response starts without any cause, neither injury nor infection, and doesn’t end when it should end. This condition is mainly due to abnormal and atypical reactions to infections, normal tissues, or obesity. DNA damage and cancer are the common results of chronic inflammation.
1. Eat Cruciferous Vegetables
Cabbage, kale, and broccoli are all cruciferous vegetables and are best eaten raw. The preferable amount is 2-3 pieces of these vegetables a day so that you can keep your acidic levels low.
2. Consume Healthy Oils
Make sure you consume organic oils like olive, avocado, and coconut oil, which have anti-inflammatory properties and are helpful in the process of transportation of messages in the nervous system.
On the other hand, avoid processed sunflower, corn, margarine, and hydrogenated oil, because they all affect the transmission of the previously mentioned messages. This is of huge importance because the nervous system should receive all the messages so that it functions properly and protects health.
3. Choose Proteins
Consume peas, nuts, lentils, seeds, and beans so that you get your protein intake. But, avoid or reduce meat intake because when meat is cooked at high temperatures two toxins are formed. Namely, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heterocyclic amines (HCAs) which can damage the DNA and lead to developing cancer.
4. Choose Drinks
When it comes to drinks, you should always choose water, or if you can’t do only on water, make yourself a natural herbal or green tea, or any kind of vegetable juice. But, make sure you avoid sodas and beer because they contain preservatives, additives, and sugar. Also, be careful with the amount of coffee you consume.
5. Eliminate Sugar
Sugar is harmful in many different ways. First, cancer cells use glucose more than any other cells and because sugar is acidic it stimulates cancer progression. Also, the pancreas releases insulin when sugar is over-consumed, which leads to insulin resistance and eventually stimulates cancer cell rapid growth.
6. Eliminate Gluten
Instead of consuming baked foods such as muffins, cookies, cakes, bread, cereals, pasta, etc. start consuming organic quinoa, rice, teff, and buckwheat. By doing so, you will avoid rye, wheat, spelt, and other grains that contain gluten and cause inflammation.
7. Eliminate Dairy Products
One of the most cancer-causing foods are actually cow dairy products. Cheese and yogurt are commonly produced by added powdered milk, which contains casein. This protein feeds cancer and also causes inflammatory diseases and bone decay.
